The press release that came with this download tried really really REALLY hard to attempt to persuade that they weren’t “just another band with the usual sad songs about drinking alone”. Unfortunate then that the first lines of the first song consist of the lyrics “Another Song about Drinking” repeated a few times. Oops! Is this some insidious new form of irony?

The rest of the album is about as generic as it gets, scraping guitars, gravelly vocals blah blah blah. Pathetic description I know, but what can I say? I guess the first part of “I read this in a book” has a bouncy start which sounds a bit like Jets Vs Sharks, and thus pretty decent. But then it stops being pretty decent before too long. I’m sure they’re nice guys and all, but an ep full of what sounds like Gunmoll b-sides ain’t cutting any mustard here.

Final note the press release, which incidentally (as I am sure can be noted by my banging on about it) is pretty annoying, attempts to somewhat imperiously claim that they have the aspiration and potential to transcend their influences (unsurprisingly cited as Jawbreaker, Latterman, and Small Brown Bike). Really? this is the same type of gaseous bluster that issues forth from the mouth of Tony Victory every time he attempts to flog another identikit hc band onto the disinterested world. Perhaps the comparison is apt?
