There are 2 indie pop songs here with the emphasis heavily on the pop. This is a single by The Minor Leagues who have been quite prolific in their recordings to date. They apparently like to write concept records and have written three story albums. These two songs are from an album which is all about the town that the singer grew up in. I presume this to be Cincinatti where the band are based. The first song sounds a bit 80s and very Belle & Sebastian throughout right up to the intonation on the vocals. There is a nice addition of the glockenspiel (I think!) on the chorus and it has a nostalgic feel to it lyrically. The intro to the second song sounds like they are about to unleash a cover version of “Build Me Up Buttercup” on us but thankfully they opt for another of their own songs. It does have a hint of that song though in the "ba-dum ba-dum" sound on the keyboards. The alleged glockenspiel reappears on this track too but this song is a bit twee for me. It’s well done though and they clearly know how to pen a nice pop song. This band should probably be having big hits. Or writing film scores for films like Love Actually. Or both.
