You never entirely know what you're gonna get with a new Circle album, but you at least know it's going to be interesting. This – their first LP for Southern Lord – certainly doesn't disappoint in that regard, lobbing in blackened grumbles; hypnotic riffing that falls somewhere between early Stooges and early Monster Magnet; bulge-eyed experimentation and a sense of theatre that wouldn't sound out of place coming from an 80s power metal act. There's lots to dig into here and lots to enjoy, making it a comfortable stop-off for long-time fans and a sound point of entry for those making their first tentative foray into Circle's strange and wonderful headspace.
